Fort Cavazos, formerly known as Fort Hood, is a prominent military installation located in Central Texas, near the city of Killeen and approximately 60 miles from Austin.

Home to an active duty population of around 38,000 soldiers, along with tens of thousands of family members and civilian personnel, Fort Cavazos plays a crucial role in supporting the U.S. Army’s training and operational readiness. The base is known for its extensive training facilities, including a range that encompasses over 200 square miles, and serves as a major hub for armored and mechanized units.


Fort Cavazos also has a rich history, having been established in 1942 and named after General Richard Cavazos, the first Hispanic four-star general in U.S. Army history, reflecting a commitment to diversity in the military. The base is integral to the community, providing economic support and various programs for service members and veterans.
